3D Modeling Work
Fall 2017

For the final project of my intro 3D modeling class, I decided to create the room of my dreams; a modern Asian-fusion style home. The entire model was created and textured in Maya.
The room features a sunken living room, an attempt at a scroll painting, a live edge style table, a traditional Japanese closet, tatami inspired tables, a modern take on a traditional Chinese bookshelf, wainscotting along the ceiling, exposed rafter ceilings, a walkway overlooking a body of water, and an open layout frequently found in today’s designs.
While I intended to be able to sit on the floor and lounge on the sofa, I definitely am missing chairs and all the small pieces that would have made this a used room.
I definitely spent more time modeling and designing than on anything else which is why a couple of the renders are so dark. Because the ceiling features exposed rafters, I couldn’t think of a way to incorporate lighting without taking up floor space. I also wanted the room to be able to usable in natural light but didn’t have time to understand how to emulate it. I was amazed at how much I learned in a semester but there’s definitely room for improvement.
Above shows the model walking out of the room into a hallway.
Below shows the sunken living room with a view of the outside walkway. The TV was imported in.
The black walkway is supposed to be sitting on top of water. I took inspiration from the Japanese garden at the Brooklyn botanical Garden and imagined being able to dip my feet into the water while koi fish swim around.
The human model was created my putting in my relative measurements into the software MakeHuman. As someone shorter that the average American, furniture is often at an uncomfortable height I wanted to create a space that would function relative to my proportions.
